TROUBLESHOOTING

Common questions and fixes

What do I need for AirStack?

AirStack requires macOS 14.2 or later and at least one compatible AirPlay receiver on the same local network as your Mac. Synchronized playback across multiple speakers needs at least two AirPlay 2 receivers with PTP timing support; behavior can vary by model and firmware.

AirStack can't find my speakers

AirStack needs Local Network access to discover and connect to AirPlay speakers. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network and turn on AirStack. Also make sure your Mac and speakers are on the same network, then search again.

Playing a single app doesn't work

When you choose an app as the source, macOS asks for the Audio Capture permission. AirStack cannot grant it for you. Turn on AirStack under System Settings → Privacy & Security → Audio & System Audio Recording.

Multiple speakers don't start in sync

Synchronized multiroom needs AirStack's small PTP timing helper. If macOS asks for approval, allow AirStack under System Settings → General → Login Items. The helper only handles timing and does not record audio. If the helper has problems, AirStack offers a “Repair PTP helper” action. A speaker that doesn't report PTP timing can't be part of a synchronized group.

A speaker drops out briefly

With automatic reconnect turned on, AirStack retries transient AirPlay failures after 1, 2, 5, 10 and 30 seconds. Synchronized groups are rebuilt as a whole so they don't drift apart.

AirStack Companion can't find my Mac

Your iPhone or iPad and the Mac must be on the same local network, and AirStack must be open on the Mac. Allow AirStack Companion to access the local network in iOS Settings, then search again.

Pairing with the Mac doesn't work

On the Mac, choose “Allow Pairing” and enter the 6-digit code shown there in the Companion. If the code was entered incorrectly three times, choose “Allow Pairing” on the Mac again to get a new code. If a device no longer has access to the Mac, pair it again.
